Interpretations of N.M. Yadrintsev's Political and Legal Doctrine in Modern Legal Literature

Abstract
The purpose of this study is a hermeneutic and narrative analysis of the texts of scientific articles written by modern lawyers, which makes it possible to assess, as well as show the level and degree of relevance and applicability of the political and legal ideas of Nikolai Mikhailovich Yadrintsev. It is emphasized that in recent years, the texts of academic articles by legal scholars have most often contained either the analysis of N.M. Yadrintsev's penitentiary ideas, or abounded in the material collected and systematized by that pre-revolutionary publicist about the system of correctional punishment in the Russian Empire.
The basis of our research is the corpus of academic publications of modern lawyers, which examine and evaluate the political and legal thought of N.M. Yadrintsev. Such basis has obliged us to choose the tools of hermeneutics and discursive analysis. This methodology, we believe, allows us to identify and show the narratives typical of modern legal literature in relation to the ideas of the Siberian thinker.
It has been established that the corpus of publications by legal scholars in this field contains several narratives. Firstly, it is the theme of N.M. Yadrintsev's ideal of statehood – federalism. Secondly, the concept of penal enforcement law and penitentiary policy serves as the core of understanding of the legal thought by the famous Siberian. Thirdly, statistical data collected by the educator in the field of the causes and consequences of crime, as well as the influence of the life of exiled criminals on the nature of their places of residence, can be considered a derivative discourse in the analyzed legal literature.
