List-Based Approach to Categorizing Crimes

Abstract
The article considers the categorization of crimes in the Russian criminal law. The author discusses the possibility of applying a list-based approach to the categorization of crimes. According to the author, the legislator's desire for a balanced criminal law text should not take precedence over the need for a strict definition of crime categories. The author proposes a specific grouping of crimes that can serve as a basis for implementing a list-based approach to the categorization of crimes. Using the example of Chapter VII of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the author presents a possible approach to defining crime categories. Finally, the author concludes that the list-based approach to categorizing crimes is potentially feasible and can contribute to a logical organization of crimes under the criminal law.
